In Act 1, we are already made aware that there
can be multiple representations of love. Based on what we know of Romeo at this
point in the play, how does Shakespeare represent love through the character of
Romeo.
In
Romeo and Juliet Shakespeare represents love in many different ways. In act 1
Romeo explains that when he is in love with a girl it is the end of the world
when she does not love him back, you see this at the end of act 1 when Romeo
locks himself inside his bedroom when he finds out Rosaline does not love him
and goes into a state of depression "Out of her favor, where I am in
love". Throughout Act 1 Shakespeare uses different language to
express Romeos feelings upon love in a deeper way. "Why, such
is love’s transgression. Griefs of mine own lie heavy in my breast, which
thou wilt propagate, to have it pressed With more of thine. "
the Language used in this quote shows us that Romeo is very upset and
distraught and he thinks that being in love is very hard and difficult and that
love is never on Romeos side. Throughout Act 1 Shakespeare shows love as something
that is very confusing and wrong, he helps explain it by using the characters
Romeo and Rosaline.
